How to read today's cheapest gas list
Vancouver gas prices are not uniform across the city. On any given afternoon, the spread between the cheapest and most expensive regular gasoline inside city limits is usually 8–15 cents per litre, and it widens further once you look across Metro Vancouver — Surrey and the Langley/Fraser Valley edge are routinely 5–10¢ under Vancouver proper, while the North Shore runs a few cents above it. The list below ranks the twenty stations currently posting the lowest regular-grade prices in our database, refreshed hourly from a Canadian fuel price feed and a small amount of manual moderation.
Before you drive across town to the cheapest pump, do a little arithmetic. Saving 5¢/L on a 50-litre fill is $2.50. A typical Vancouver sedan burns roughly 9 litres of fuel per 100 km, so a 10 km round-trip detour costs you about 0.9 litres of gas — currently $1.60 to $1.90 in real money at Vancouver prices. That makes the detour worth it, but barely — and crossing a bridge at rush hour can erase the saving entirely. When Vancouver prices typically move
Unlike some Canadian cities, Vancouver does not have a strong weekly discount cycle. Prices here track the Vancouver wholesale rack — which runs 15–25¢/L above Edmonton's — and move on supply news: Parkland's Burnaby refinery turnarounds, Trans Mountain pipeline allocation, and Pacific Northwest import cargoes. When the rack jumps, the majors — Chevron, Shell, Petro-Canada, Esso — typically reprice within a day. Prices also tend to firm up heading into long weekends and the summer driving season. The cheapest corridors are consistently Surrey (King George Boulevard, Fraser Highway, Scott Road), East Hastings, and SE Marine Drive; the two Metro Vancouver Costco gas bars (Port Coquitlam and Langley) are usually the hard price floor for the whole region.
Two caveats worth flagging before you read the list. First, prices on this page come from a feed that updates hourly; an actual pump price can change between refreshes, especially for the major chains. Always confirm the cents-per-litre on the pump display before you start fuelling. Second, our coverage focuses on regular 87-octane gasoline.
