Burnaby is the refinery city of Metro Vancouver — the Parkland refinery on Burrard Inlet produces roughly a quarter of the region’s gasoline — but that does not translate into refinery-gate prices at its pumps. What actually keeps Burnaby competitive is geography: the city sits astride every east-west route out of Vancouver, and the long retail corridors of Kingsway, Hastings, Lougheed Highway and Marine Way carry enough stations that the majors have to watch each other block by block.
The best value tends to cluster where the volume is: the Kingsway strip through Edmonds and Highgate, the Marine Way big-box corridor near Byrne Road, and the Hastings stations that trade directly against East Vancouver across Boundary Road. One caution for bargain-hunters: Burnaby has no Costco gas bar — the nearest ones are in Port Coquitlam and Langley — so don’t plan a fill around one.
