Our Mission

Filling a tank in Vancouver — home to the highest big-city gas prices in North America — can cost anywhere from $70 to over $140 depending on your vehicle. With prices fluctuating daily — and sometimes multiple times in a single day — it can be hard to know whether you're getting a fair deal. CheapGasVancouver.ca exists to give every driver in the city clear, up-to-date pricing information so you can make a confident, informed decision at the pump.

We're not a gas station, an oil company, or affiliated with any fuel brand. We're an independent information tool with a simple goal: help Vancouverites save money on one of their biggest recurring household expenses.

Where Does the Data Come From?

Pump prices come from community-reported Canadian fuel-price feeds, including public GasBuddy reports. Station locations and basic map metadata may also be checked against OpenStreetMap. Our own software matches those reports to stations, rejects incomplete records, calculates the rankings and price summaries, and stores time-stamped observations so readers can see when a price was actually reported.

The collection job runs hourly, but an hourly check does not guarantee that every station received a new community report. That is why station cards show the source-report time, not merely the time our server last ran. The “cheapest today” ranking excludes reports older than 36 hours. A map-only station with no usable report is shown without a price; we do not estimate a current pump price.

Coverage

Our primary coverage is regular (87 octane) gasoline within Vancouver and Metro Vancouver. Diesel and premium prices are displayed only where the source supplies them. We also publish pages for nearby cities — Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, the Tri-Cities, the North Shore and Langley — when our database has enough priced stations to make a useful comparison. A city page is not added to the sitemap until it clears that minimum-data check. Covered brands include:

Coverage varies by city and fuel grade. The station count and observed price distribution are published directly on each price page so readers can judge the sample for themselves. If you notice a station missing from our database, please let us know.

No Affiliation with Any Fuel Brand

CheapGasVancouver.ca is completely independent. We receive no compensation from any gas station, fuel company, or oil refinery. Our only revenue source is small contextual advertisements displayed on the site. These ads do not influence the order in which stations appear — sorting is always by price (cheapest first) and/or distance from your location.

Privacy Commitment

When you use the "Nearest to Me" feature, your GPS coordinates are used only in your browser session to query nearby stations. Our application does not save your coordinates in its database, include them in analytics events, associate them with a profile, or sell them. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.

Editorial Standards

All articles and explainers published on CheapGasVancouver.ca are written and reviewed by our editorial team. We do not claim first-hand access to refinery or retailer pricing decisions. We separate reported pump-price observations from our own calculations and label forecasts as estimates. Before publication, factual claims are checked against the most relevant source available:

  • Pump prices: the time-stamped community reports in our feed, with public GasBuddy pages used for spot checks.
  • Wholesale (rack) prices: terminal postings from fuel suppliers and Natural Resources Canada wholesale-price data.
  • Crude oil benchmarks: the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the St. Louis Fed FRED series for WTI (DCOILWTICO).
  • Taxes & fuel levies: federal legislation and the Government of British Columbia's official motor-fuel-tax pages, including the Metro Vancouver (TransLink) rates.
  • Regulatory & competition issues: Canadian Competition Bureau reports on retail gasoline pricing.

We do not accept payment for editorial placement and we do not publish sponsored content. Articles are reviewed for accuracy at least every six months, and the "Last reviewed" date on each article reflects the most recent fact-check. If you find an error, please email us via the Contact page and we will correct it and note the change at the bottom of the article.

Corrections Policy

When we publish a correction we update the affected article, change the "Last reviewed" date, and — for material corrections (a wrong number, a misattributed statement, an incorrect tax rate) — add a dated note at the bottom of the article describing what changed and why. Minor typo fixes are not annotated.
